INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING

Instructional coaching has been a journey of learning and growing as a leader. Building relationships is the basis for effective coaching and transforming schools through improving teacher practice. Monitoring and addressing systemic issues has allowed for improved outcomes for our children. Through coaching I have been able to monitor classroom instruction, use data to drive instructional coaching to pinpoint areas of need, and develop professional development opportunities to meet the needs of our teachers. Some of the PD I have developed include Verbs that drive instruction, Research Based Strategies to Promote written and oral communication, Path to language Development, and many others. I pride myself in creating Professional Development that allows for meaningful, hands on learning vs a sit and get approach.

Inquiry Circles |Voice and Choice

Students are engaged in an extended, rigorous process of asking questions, using resources, and developing answers. Acting as a facilitator I allow my students to make some choices about the products to be created, how they work, and how they use their time.

Real World Experiences/Making Connections

Authentic learning experiences are created around genuine, outside audiences and meaningful purposes. My students engage in critical thinking and 21st Century learning through collaborative learning. Students are able to practice important skills such as research and collaboration that in turn improve student learning.

Hands on |Kinesthetic Learning

Kinesthetic learners love to manipulate objects in the environment and doing so as they work with ideas allows the content to become more relevant and meaningful. One of the best kinesthetic learning strategies is to find creative ways that my lessons can be reinforced through activities involving manipulatives, movement, and total physical response.

Problem Solving and Critical Thinking

Coding and computer science allows students to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills through puzzles and algorithms. Just as we teach students how to dissect a frog, or how electricity works, it’s important for every 21st century student to have a chance to “dissect an app,” or learn how the Internet works.
